Prior to pursing this call from the Lord, I didn’t know very much about the plight of missionaries, however, during my research to learn more, I soon discovered that the attrition rate for missionaries is very high. Many experience burnout due to the rigorous demands of the missionary lifestyle which involves years of training in theology, the local culture (which can be hostile, even dangerous), and the secondary job they will be doing while preaching the Gospel. Coupled with their field work, missionaries must also balance their marriage, families (missionary kids are often sent away to boarding schools), physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. When they return home on furlough, they typically have no house or car, yet they still need to travel around the country to meet with other believers and churches to solicit their prayers and financial support in order to return to the mission field.
Our goal at A Gift from God is to provide compassionate care and a place of respite where missionary couples can get away to decompress and find relief from the many stressors that negatively impact their marriages, children, and ultimately the mission field. This is not just a complimentary vacation, but a spiritual retreat. Couples will be required to participate in a flexible, self-directed, continuing education program 4-6 hours each day. The self-study program is designed to help them maintain and improve both their vocational and personal skills, develop spiritually, pursue their relationship with Jesus Christ and with each other (another gift from God). It will include a wide range of activities from Bible study, reading and praying to walking on the beach.
All these wonderful gifts from God will be given to the missionary couples through the charity and made possible with the help and support of you, our donors. “Yes!” Your donations are a gift from God! Please pray about becoming part of our ministry support team by making a one-time and/or recurring monthly donation to help us support these faithful stewards who have put their lives on the line to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the world.
Thank you so much and may God’s blessings overflow in your life!
